ABOUT THE SSgt JASON HICKS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The sixth annual Scholarship was awarded May 29, 2008, to Derek Westfall, pictured above, of Pageland, SC.  Derek will be attending North Greenville University, pursuing a degree in Christian Studies.  He plans to become a pastor after earning his degree.  Congratulations Derek!  We wish you success in your plans.

The fifth annual Scholarship was awarded in 2007 to Michael Houston of Pageland, SC.  Michael will be attending Clemson University, where he will be participating in Clemson's Air Force ROTC program.  After graduating from Clemson, Michael plans on starting a career in the United States Air Force as an officer.  We were impressed with Michael's application and look forward to following his Air Force career.  Congratulations Michael and good luck!

The fourth annual Scholarship was awarded at Central's 2006 award's day ceremony to Jessica Mangum of Pageland, SC.  Jessica is attending The University of South Carolina at Spartanburg, pursuing a BS in Biology with a minor in criminal justice.

The third annual Scholarship was awarded May 17, 2005 at Central High School's annual award's day ceremony to Kyle Threatt of Jefferson, SC.  Kyle attended the NASCAR Technical Institute this fall, pursuing his dream job of working in the NASCAR environment. 

The second annual Scholarship was awarded May 18, 2004, at Central High School's annual award's day ceremony to Emily Mangum of Pageland, SC.  Emily is attending Clemson University pursuing her degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education.

The first annual Scholarship was awarded in May, 2003 to Daniel Sawyer of Jefferson, SC who is attending the University of South Carolina, pursing a degree in Political Science, with a minor in Military Science.  Daniel is a member of the university's Army ROTC program.

The Scholarship Fund was started after Jason's death to honor his memory.  We are very proud of Jason, his life accomplishments and the work he did.  He truly died an American hero, protecting his Country and Her citizens.

The Scholarship is awarded annually in Jason's name to a graduating senior from Central High School in Pageland, South Carolina, Jason's alma mater.  Any Central High School graduating senior may apply for the Scholarship.  Special consideration will be given to students enrolled in the ROTC program, Central High Athletic programs or students who wish to pursue a military career after college graduation.  Applicants should also demonstrate leadership abilities and community service.
